Coast Guard Extends Appreciation to MV "Pearl Venus"
On February 22, 2001, MV "Pearl
Venus", a vessel manned by NYK-Fil Ship Management,
Inc., received a message of appreciation from the U.S. Coast Guard
Honululu, Hawaii for her timely response to a 406 Mhz beacon
alert from the fishing vessel NAIA LELE III. Upon notification
from the U.S. Coast Guard, MV "Pearl Venus" voluntarily steamed to the distress position 84 NM South of the
Island of Hawaii. Finding no vessel in the area, she promptly
began a search for survivors and found all three crewmen in a
liferaft. MV "Pear Venus" completed this lifesaving
search and rescue before U.S. Coast Guard aircraft and vessels
could reach the area.
The prompt action of the crew, headed
by Capt. Ernesto B. Clarina, for the NAIA LELE III and her crew,
directly resulted in three lives saved. The U.S. Coast Guard
highly commended their willingness to assist fellow mariners in
distress and their participation in the AMVER (Automated
Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue) system.
In said message, RAdm J. J.
McClelland, Commander, Fourteenth Coast Guard District, Honolulu,
HI, stated: "Your unselfish devotion to aid others in
distress upholds the highest principles and traditions of maritime
service."
The NYK-Filship management and staff
share this particular honor with all the officers and crew of MV
"Pearl Venus". Bravo!
