2009-2010 Environmental CSR Initiatives

Shocked by the devastation wrought by Ondoy in 2009, our CSR team committed to a more active participation in environment protection and preservation.

We started with an awareness campaign in our 2009 christmas party by making environment and ecology preservation the theme for the event.  To further employee awareness and involvement in this endeavor, we held a waste management training in February 2010.

On August 07, our group of about 36 employees from various operating sites in Manila and Calabarzon, went to the La Mesa Ecopark with our donation of P15,000 in support of the Protect a Hectare Save the La Mesa Watershed Project of ABS-CBN’s Bantay Kalikasan.

Our donation earned us a certificate from BIR and Bantay Kalikasan, as well as naming rights for 1 year. But more than this, our members also participated in an environmental awareness lecture, a vermi-composting demonstration, in addition the actual tree planting which was the highlight of the day. Donations to the Protect a Hectare project support the maintenance and protection of the existing forest in the La Mesa Watershed area which is crucial to the supply of water to some 12 million Metro Manila residents. To address the alarming garbage and debris in our rivers and oceans we have likewise participated in two (2) major clean-up drives.

On September 25, our PDI team joined the 25th International Coastal Clean-up drive in Bauan, Batangas. This year’s theme was “Trash is plaguing the seas, It’s time to turn the tide . . . . .” Together with government agencies and other corporate entities, NLPH PDI members joined Bauan International Port, Inc. (BIPI) in cleaning the shoreline of Bgy. San Andres I, Bauan and collected sacks of non-biodegradable trash.
