NLPH ties up with PNRC for Bloodletting Activity

Bloodletting is a Corporate Social Responsibility project that we do every year, with all business units taking turns in organizing their respective teams’ schedules.  In  July 2010, the Integrated Logistics group and the Corporate Management Department held its annual bloodletting activity in Manila in collaboration with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC-Intramuros).

A few days before the activity, we were advised by PNRC officials that the donors should have enough rest and sleep, no alcohol intake nor any medication at least 24 hours prior to bloodletting, eat light meals, avoid fatty foods, and drink plenty of fluids preferably water and juice. The company provided meals to all who participated, and PNRC issued a donor card to each volunteer which entitled the bearer to a free 1 unit/bag of blood. These donor cards have proven to be very useful and have helped many of our team members in times when they truly needed assistance in sourcing blood donors or supply.

This has brought our entire team’s donation to approximately 15,000cc of blood.  Each year, we encourage employees to donate blood. It benefits not only the blood recipients, but also us volunteer donors as we are able to check up on our health every time we donate - we get to know if we are anemic, under/over-weight, and it makes us aware of our blood type as well as our blood pressure.  We also replenish our blood supply which helps our organs work more efficiently and productively.

Our commitment to this life-saving project helps us to share something with the society, benefits our own health, and provides us a very important lifeline should any of us or a family member need it.
